Neelesh Gupta Memorial Award
General:
The Neelesh Gupta Memorial Award is named in
honor of a former Mukul Hindi School student and
beloved son of Ottawa's Indian community. His
strength of character and his indomitable spirit
continues to permeate the essence of each and
every student who passed through these corridors
of learning. The Neelesh Gupta Award will be
presented to one (1) student of Mukul Hindi
School at the Annual Function. It is hoped that
this student will be a true role model for other
students of Mukul Hindi School. Let this Award
continue to represent all qualities of Neelesh
and be awarded to the student who satisfies the
following criteria.
Eligibility:
- Enrolled as a student in good standing
with Mukul Hindi School for 2 years
- Student must be a graduating student in
level 7 of the school. If there is not
enough competition, then other
(non-graduating) student of next highest
level may be included for award competition
Criteria:
- The student must have achieved the
highest overall average based on
assignments, homework and class exams. In
the event of a mathematical tie, attendance
will be used as the deciding factor
- The student must have participated in
the cultural events hosted by the Mukul
Hindi School such as Holi, Diwali and annual
functions
- The student must have demonstrated
respect for his/her community, peers,
teachers and Mukul Hindi school
- The test will be conducted as follows:
- The Committee will create a 'Selection
Team' comprising of the educational
coordinator and one other Committee member
- The test will be conducted on 3rd
Saturday of April during the Hindi School
hours as follows:
- No advance notice will be given to
teachers or students
- Teacher of the Level 7 will nominate
two or three students to write the test
- The Selection Team will conduct the
test and give a topic on the spot and
let the candidates write for 15-20
minutes
- The Selection Team will then
evaluate and decide the winner for each
award based on expression, ideas,
grammar, and writing and average the
scores
Prize:
- It may be presented by a special guest,
member of the Committee, teacher or
principal of the student, or any member of
the Indian community
- The recipient will receive a trophy
identify the following:
- The name of the Award - Neelesh
Gupta Memorial Award
- The name of the recipient - selected
by the Committee
- The date the prize is awarded - does
not necessarily have to be exact
- A brief note describing Neelesh
